We're Engaged!! :)

Sorry it's been a while since I've updated, but as you probably know it has been a whirlwind of a week! Kyle came to Peru and we traveled around, we got engaged (!!!) on Tuesday on Machu Picchu, toured Lima, and then caught our flights back home late on Saturday. On Sunday, my parents picked us up at the SBN airport and we were home. Little did I know my family had planned a surprise welcome home party for me, that naturally turned into an engagement party. It was quite wonderful to see everyone again and to share the great news!

Of course, Kyle and I are excited with this new development in our lives. I am very much in love with my best friend and feel so blessed that I get to spend the rest of my life with him :) Yay!

I will definitely post some pictures soon and a little bit more of a story about the engagement and all our exciting travels. But until then, I just wanted to give you a quick update.

I'll be back soon :)

My 100-ish List

Trying to pass time until Kyle gets here (6 HOURS!) So I am writing up my very own "bucket list", or all the things I want to get accomplished in my lifetime. I got the idea from the blog Living in Yellow, which is written by a woman from my hometown (Middlebury!). We even went to elementary school together (GO MIDDIES!) So thanks, Erin, for the idea! :)

I have started this type of list multiple times, on a variety of different papers/journals/diaries/websites/emails to myself, but they seemed to get lost, or I just forget about them. I think a blog is a good way to get it down in writing and I can keep adding to it as I think of new ideas.
So here it is...58 things (and counting!) on my LIFE LIST:

  38. Make a lot of money, but give it away!

  40. Do 100 (OR MORE) random acts of kindness
  41. Hot air balloon ride
  42. Plant a tree
  43. Get over my "dislike" of animals, and own a pet
  44. Go backpacking
  45. Plan someone's wedding
  46. ...plan my own wedding.
  47. Find a job I am passionate about

A few notes...

Just to clear something up, the MLK Jr. quote I posted in my last post is actually a mash-up of different quotes. Everyone loves a good REEEEEmix, right?? But I definitely don't want to misquote anyone. So here is the original MLK quote. Still has the same idea :)

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction. So when Jesus says "Love your enemies," he is setting forth a profound and ultimately inescapable admonition. ... The chain reaction of evil — hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars — must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." --MLK, Jr.

Anyway...Life is good here. Just wrapping up everything at work, training the new intern. Dos mas dias until Kyle is here (That means: TWO MORE DAYS!) To say that I am excited would be an understatement. But I'll say it anyway....I'm Excited!!

I am getting sad thinking about leaving my work here and my host family. But I am also VERY much looking forward to seeing family and friends again.

I am definitely ready to return to the United States of Traffic Laws and the United States of "It's rude to stare". Ha. Also, excited to "chase the summer sun" back to Indiana. It's getting cold here. 70 degrees has never felt so cold. Brrrr.

Thanks for reading along with my adventures while I've been here. I have been considering keeping a blog once I return states side...but feel like it would be rather boring after all my adventures here. We'll see :)

A Fitting Quote...

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives,
but I will not rejoice in the death of one,
not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate,
adding deeper darkness
to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can that"

--Martin Luther King, Jr.--
